At the second stocktaking moment of the UN Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa, Morocco called for the creation of an international fund to enhance food security in Africa. The proposed fund aims to bolster the continent’s food sovereignty and long-term resilience in the face of growing global food challenges.
Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Ahmed El Bouari, emphasized the country’s alignment with global and regional development agendas, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. He stressed the need for food systems transformation grounded in inclusive governance, environmentally sustainable agriculture, social equity, and responsible financial mobilization.
El Bouari highlighted Morocco’s domestic efforts under the Generation Green 2020–2030 strategy, which promotes sustainable agriculture and strengthens human capital. He detailed measures such as intersectoral governance frameworks, investments in water resilience through desalination and optimized irrigation, and the implementation of national roadmaps and social protection programs to ensure access to nutritious food.
Reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to South-South cooperation, El Bouari cited initiatives like the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA) and the Triple S Initiative—Sustainability, Stability, and Security in Africa—as key pillars supporting African countries in building more resilient and inclusive food systems.
