The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced that over $8.7 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding has been awarded to support 16 community projects across the state. These projects aim to enhance public infrastructure and improve the quality of life in rural and low-to-moderate-income areas. The total federal funding of $8,749,350 is supplemented by $4,985,277 in local matching contributions, bringing the overall investment to $13,734,627.
Key projects receiving funding include the City of Herington, which was awarded $94,413 through an Urgent Need grant to replace failed aeration blowers at its wastewater treatment plant. Miltonvale received $500,000 for the installation of ADA-compliant playground equipment at Tootleville Park. In St. John, a $300,000 Commercial Rehabilitation grant will support the redevelopment of a downtown building for local businesses and events. Valley Falls secured $650,000 to rehabilitate its sanitary sewer system.
These CDBG-funded initiatives focus on addressing urgent infrastructure needs, promoting economic development, and enhancing community spaces, demonstrating a broad impact on Kansas residents’ daily lives.
