The Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in collaboration with the African Union Commission, has announced progress on preparations for the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), scheduled to take place from 8 to 10 September 2025 in Addis Ababa. This major continental event aims to advance Africa’s priorities in global climate negotiations and build upon the foundation established by the inaugural 2023 Nairobi Summit (ACS1).
The upcoming summit will bring together high-level dignitaries, including Heads of State, ministers, and technical experts. The goal is to position Africa as a global leader and solutions provider on climate action. With the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” ACS2 seeks to focus the international spotlight on African-led responses to climate change.
Key areas of the summit will include tracking progress on past commitments and laying out a roadmap for their implementation. It will emphasize strengthening institutions and systems that support climate adaptation, just transitions, finance, trade, innovation, and technology. Sessions will aim to identify scalable strategies for resilience and sustainable development across the continent.
Strategically placed between the G20 Summit, the UN General Assembly, and COP30, ACS2 offers Africa a critical moment to influence global climate and financial policy by aligning its agenda with international processes. The event will also serve as a platform for launching new partnerships and showcasing successful African initiatives.
ACS2 will feature plenary sessions, ministerial roundtables, exhibitions, youth forums, and regional pavilions. It will spotlight innovations in clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, and infrastructure, reinforcing Africa’s leadership in addressing the climate crisis through actionable, region-specific strategies.
