The UN Working Group on Discrimination Against Women and Girls will carry out an official country visit to Zimbabwe from 28 July to 8 August 2025. The purpose of the visit is to assess the nation’s progress and challenges in achieving gender equality and eliminating discrimination against women and girls.
During the mission, the experts will focus on various aspects of the lives of women and girls, with particular attention to those facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination. The assessment will be conducted at the invitation of the Zimbabwean government.
The Working Group will visit several cities, including Harare, Mutare, Masvingo, and Bulawayo. They will engage with national and local authorities, civil society organizations, women and girls, United Nations entities, and other key stakeholders.
The delegation will consist of Laura Nyirinkindi, Chair of the Working Group, and Vice-Chair Claudia Flores. At the conclusion of the visit, the experts will hold a press conference on 8 August 2025 at 13:00 local time at the United Nations Information Centre in Harare. Attendance is limited to accredited journalists.
The findings from the visit will be compiled into a comprehensive report and presented to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2026.
