The TUI Care Foundation has launched two new initiatives under its global TUI Futureshapers programme, aimed at transforming social challenges into entrepreneurial opportunities in tourism. The latest projects target Portugal and North Africa, offering tailored support to aspiring social entrepreneurs seeking to develop sustainable tourism businesses.
In Portugal, the new phase of TUI Futureshapers builds on the success of its 2023–2024 pilot. In collaboration with the Regional Incubator for Social Innovation (IRIS), the programme offers online and in-person workshops across four cities. Up to 60 participants will engage in sessions on social entrepreneurship in tourism. Ten selected projects will receive one-on-one mentorship from TUI Group experts, intensive training, and business masterclasses. These teams will present their ideas at a final pitching event in Porto, with the top three receiving cash awards and a six-month incubation package.
In North Africa, the programme is being implemented in partnership with enpact Stiftung, supporting over 180 participants across Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco. The initiative aims to nurture job-creating tourism ventures, especially in rural areas, by enhancing local tourism experiences and integrating indigenous communities into the visitor economy. The first phase will feature ideation marathons for 100 participants to raise awareness and build networks. In the second phase, 50 entrepreneurs will benefit from training, mentoring, and pitching opportunities. Eight teams will receive monthly financial support and access to co-working space at enpact’s Startup Haus in Cairo. The final phase will offer ten selected startup founders three months of advanced mentoring, expert-led sessions, and participation in two startup camps in Egypt.
Both projects aim to address shared challenges in Portugal and North Africa, such as limited access to funding, market opportunities, and entrepreneurial networks. Despite their distinct tourism landscapes, these regions face similar barriers for micro, small, and medium tourism enterprises. By offering structured training, mentorship, funding, and visibility, TUI Futureshapers empowers local entrepreneurs to create sustainable tourism solutions that benefit communities and protect cultural and natural heritage.
