The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and BTG Pactual have signed a seven-year, USD160-million on-lending facility to support the financing of climate-aligned infrastructure projects in Brazil. This agreement represents AIIB’s largest private-sector transaction in Brazil and its first collaboration with BTG Pactual, which is the largest investment bank in Latin America.
The initiative aims to expand AIIB’s engagement in Latin America by fostering long-term partnerships with key financial institutions in the region. It also reflects AIIB’s broader strategy of catalyzing private sector investment in sustainable infrastructure, especially in emerging markets with significant climate potential.
The transaction aligns with AIIB’s corporate objective of achieving a 50% climate finance share within its total portfolio by 2025. It also contributes to the Bank’s goal of mobilizing greater private capital for climate-resilient development. The partnership with BTG Pactual is expected to facilitate increased investment in sectors essential for Brazil’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
