Fremont Area Community Foundation has announced the outcomes of its spring 2025 community grant round, awarding nearly $2.3 million to nonprofit organizations operating in Newaygo County, Michigan. The funding supports a broad range of initiatives in areas such as recycling, arts, literacy, and general operating support, aligning primarily with the foundation’s strategic priorities of community development, education, and poverty reduction.
Among the major grant recipients is Camp Newaygo, which received $138,000, along with an additional $7,000 from a donor-advised fund. The funding will support the rebuilding of a wetland trail and boardwalk that were severely damaged by a brushfire in 2024. The grant will be used to obtain permits, materials, signage, and necessary equipment for habitat restoration.
Michigan Works! West Central was awarded a $9,500 grant, supplemented by $500 from a donor-advised fund, for its pre-apprenticeship career counseling certificate initiative. The program aims to equip young adults with skills and credentials needed for successful entry into apprenticeship pathways, including training in soft skills and career planning.
Hope 101, another recipient, was granted $43,520 to enhance its meal program and transitional housing efforts. The organization offers housing and self-sufficiency services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Its newest initiative, The Cookery, provides nutritious meals to food-insecure families on a “pay as you can” basis.
The Community Foundation continues to support local nonprofits through its biannual community grant program, with the next application deadline set for September 2, 2025.
