The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Muslim Charity have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with Muslim Charity committing USD 1 million to support global efforts against human trafficking and modern slavery. This marks the first formal partnership under IOM’s Islamic Philanthropy Fund, which was launched earlier in 2025. The initiative comes at a time when an estimated 50 million people globally are living in conditions of modern slavery, including children and adults trafficked primarily for forced labor and sexual exploitation. The contribution will support trafficking prevention, survivor protection, and community-based solutions, especially in high-risk contexts such as Afghanistan.
The partnership unites IOM’s international humanitarian and protection expertise with Muslim Charity’s operational capacity in emergency aid and development. Their collaboration is grounded in Islamic principles such as Zakat, Sadaqah, and Riqab, which emphasize the responsibility to aid those facing exploitation and abuse. These shared values guide the implementation and distribution of resources under the new agreement.
The Islamic Philanthropy Fund was established to mobilize faith-based financial support for vulnerable populations affected by displacement, trafficking, and similar crises. Operating with a 100 percent Zakat distribution model, the Fund ensures all donations go directly to beneficiaries, adhering to principles of accountability and trust intrinsic to Islamic giving.
Through this new alliance with Muslim Charity, IOM aims to expand the reach and impact of the Fund. This strategic collaboration reflects a broader effort to engage faith-based donors and organizations in the global humanitarian response, leveraging Islamic social finance to uphold the rights and dignity of those most at risk.
