A full-day webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 16, to help small-business owners understand how to develop Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) cost proposals along with their technical components. The session, titled “Crafting Winning SBIR/STTR Cost Proposals: A Deep Dive into Technical Project Descriptions,” will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be led by expert Jim Greenwood. The event is part of the FAST Collaborative proposal lab series and is jointly hosted by the FAST programs of Wyoming, New Mexico, and Montana. Participation is free upon registration.
The webinar is supported by the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, which provides professional guidance to Wyoming entrepreneurs at all stages of business development—from ideation to exit strategies. The SBDC is hosted by the University of Wyoming and receives funding from the Wyoming Business Council as well as the U.S. Small Business Administration through a cooperative agreement.
Jim Greenwood will deliver comprehensive guidance during the webinar, covering essential topics such as an overview of SBIR/STTR programs, distinctions between agencies and funding mechanisms (grants versus contracts), strategies to identify proposal focus areas, how to demonstrate innovation and feasibility, defining technical tasks aligned with proposal objectives, and how to structure proposals with necessary elements like bios, budgets, and disclosures of foreign affiliations.
Greenwood is the co-owner of Greenwood Consulting Group Inc. and a nationally recognized SBIR/STTR trainer and proposal reviewer. He has conducted training sessions across 48 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, often partnering with universities, federal labs, economic development agencies, SBDCs, and Manufacturing Extension Partnerships to deliver targeted support for small business innovation.
