From 14 to 23 July 2025, global leaders will convene in New York for the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, a critical milestone in advancing the 2030 Agenda. This year’s forum holds particular significance as it serves as a moment of renewed commitment to gender equality, with UN Women spearheading efforts to place the rights and empowerment of women and girls at the core of sustainable development.
With only five years remaining to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), HLPF 2025 stands as a pivotal checkpoint. The forum emphasizes Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), which centers on achieving gender equality. Amid slow progress and emerging setbacks, the forum aims to accelerate effective strategies and galvanize global cooperation to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind.
A major focus of HLPF 2025 is the Beijing+30 Action Agenda, which offers a transformative roadmap for gender equality and women’s empowerment. The agenda outlines strategic actions in key areas such as care systems, climate justice, digital access, inclusive governance, and gender-responsive institutions. A multistakeholder hearing scheduled for 24 July will amplify diverse voices and highlight the role of feminist leadership and targeted investments in delivering tangible outcomes for women and girls globally.
