The Ukrainian government has launched a new financial aid initiative known as the Schoolchild’s Package, offering UAH 5,000 to parents and legal guardians of children entering the first grade. This initiative aims to help families prepare their children for school by covering the cost of essential items such as stationery, clothing, and footwear.
Applications for the Schoolchild’s Package can be submitted through the Diia e-governance app, providing a streamlined and accessible digital platform for beneficiaries. The project is a collaborative effort developed by the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Diia, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Pension Fund of Ukraine. Its development received support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, under the DIA Support project funded by Sweden.
The aid is issued as a one-time payment per child and is transferred directly to the recipient’s Diia.Card, a digital payment card within the Diia app. Once a child is officially enrolled in the first grade, the parent or guardian will be notified via the app and prompted to complete the application for the financial assistance.
Additionally, the initiative is supported by the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE project (Decentralization for the Development of Democratic Education), implemented by a consortium comprising the DOCCU NGO and the Zurich University of Education, with financial backing from Switzerland.
