The Cultural Heritage Center (CHC) in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) has opened the grants cycle for the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) until December 31, 2024. The AFCP Grants Program supports the conservation of archaeological sites, historic buildings, monuments, museum collections, and traditional cultural expressions like indigenous languages and crafts. Project activities may include anastylosis, conservation, consolidation, documentation, inventory, preventive conservation, restoration, and stabilization.
Funding for projects will range from $25,000 to $500,000, with the expectation to fund 25 to 35 projects worldwide. In FY 2025, priority will be given to projects that support U.S. treaty obligations, policies, and objectives, host country goals, risk reduction in disaster-prone areas, post-disaster recovery, and complement other ECA programs.
Eligible project implementers are non-commercial entities with the capacity to manage cultural heritage preservation projects, such as NGOs, museums, educational institutions, and ministries of culture. Individuals, commercial entities, and past award recipients with unfulfilled obligations are not eligible. Implementing partners must be registered in the U.S. government’s System for Award Management (SAM.gov) to receive federal assistance.
