The Climate & Care Initiative Fund Program is currently accepting applications until December 10, 2024. This fund seeks to support organizations and initiatives that focus on the intersection of climate and care work. It aims to develop evidence on the importance of integrating these critical areas.
The fund is looking to finance proposals that address thematic priorities related to the climate crisis and the care crisis. These priorities include initiatives that address the increasing demand for care due to climate change impacts, propose solutions to reduce unpaid care work resulting from climate change effects, redistribute care responsibilities, prevent gender-based violence after climate disasters, amplify caregiver voices, and strengthen community care networks for climate change adaptation.
Another focus area is initiatives that incorporate a care perspective and gender equality into actions to mitigate carbon emissions and reduce vulnerability to climate change. Examples include reforestation projects, land rehabilitation, organic agriculture, and community water management that empower women in decision-making roles and aim to reduce the care burden on women.
The fund also supports initiatives promoting decent working conditions with a gender and care perspective within the framework of just transitions. This includes improving working conditions in green economy sectors, highlighting employment opportunities in the care sector, promoting organizational processes for women in green economy sectors, and advocating for integrated strategies addressing climate and care.
To be eligible for funding, organizations or initiatives must demonstrate a clear link between climate action and care work, empower women and local communities in sustainable practices, prioritize equity and sustainability in a feminist just transition, and be led by a Global South organization in one of the specified countries.
The fund has a total of USD$600,000 available, with each project receiving up to USD$50,000. The initiatives funded must be implemented within a maximum period of 14 months. Proposals are accepted from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Sub-Saharan Africa.
Grassroots organizations, NGOs, and social movements based in the specified regions are eligible to apply. The proposal must establish a clear link between climate change and care, include clear objectives and goals, be led by an organization from the Global South, and incorporate a gender and human rights perspective.
