The Generation Equality Forum will convene from June 30-July 2. It is a global gathering for gender equality convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France, in partnership with youth and civil society. The Forum wil launch a series of concrete, ambitious and transformative actions to achieve immediate and irreversible progress towards gender equality.
Registration for the Generation Equality Forum in Paris is now open until Sunday, 27 June at midnight Paris time (CEST).
The Generation Equality Forum is a major global inflection point for gender equality. This landmark effort is bringing together governments, corporations and change makers from around the world to define and announce ambitious investments and policies. The result will be a permanent acceleration in equality, leadership and opportunity for women and girls worldwide.
The Generation Equality Forum is fueling a powerful and lasting coalition for gender equality. It presents a vital moment for activists, feminists, youth and allies to achieve transformative change for generations to come.
This is a critical moment. COVID-19 has exacerbated existing gender inequities, with reports of rising violence against women, as well as higher adverse economic impacts caused both by increased unpaid care-giving and the fact that women work in more insecure, low-paid and informal jobs. Women of color, indigenous women and youth face compounded risks and barriers. We are living through a gender equality crisis, and the Generation Equality Forum offers a critical opportunity to confront it.
The Forum spurs financial and political commitments for gender equality and to fuel a multi-sector movement to ensure action and accountability. It is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to advance women’s rights and to ensure that gender is at the center of the post-COVID agenda.
The Forum’s ambitions are carried through a bold feminist agenda and the work of a set of ‘Action Coalitions’. The result: tangible progress towards gender equality during the UN Decade of Action (2020-2030) to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.
Action Coalitions are global, innovative, multi-stakeholder partnerships that are mobilizing governments, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector to:
- catalyze collective action,
- spark global and local conversations among generations,
- drive increased public & private investment,
- deliver concrete, game-changing results.
Based on human rights principles, and through a data-driven process of consultation with international feminist groups, grassroots activist organizations, governments and other partners, the selected themes of the Generation Equality Action Coalitions are:
- Gender-Based Violence
- Economic justice and rights
- Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
- Feminist action for climate justice
- Technology and innovation for Gender Equality
- Feminist movements and leadership
Over 25 years after the landmark Beijing Women’s Conference public rhetoric on gender equality has not been matched by action and implementation. Not a single country today can claim to have achieved gender equality.
The Forum therefore represents a key moment for gender equality advocates from every sector of society – governments, civil society, private sector, entrepreneurs, trade unions, artists, academia and social influencers – to drive urgent action and accountability for gender equality.
