MedPAN organisation has launched a Call for Small Projects for Mediterranean MPAs for the 2020-2021 period with the aim of contributing to the support and consolidation of integrated management and resilience process of coastal, island and marine areas in the Mediterranean, for the benefit of ecosystems and local communities, while integrating the challenges of co-management of targeted territories, in order to reproduce them, eventually, on a larger scale.
By supporting small projects implemented in MPAs, MedPAN aims to support local initiatives in terms of MPA co-management approach, in 6 countries. Funding will be awarded to the following countries only: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey and Albania.
For this Call for Small Projects, the total amount available is €38,270. This envelope will make it possible to finance 1 or 2 small projects according to the amounts requested from MedPAN. The contribution of the MedPAN association for each project will depend on the type of funding requested by the applicant:
Category I – Classic: the MedPAN contribution to the project will be a maximum of €20,000. It concerns any type of project involving a single MPA or several MPAs in the same country.
Category II – Cooperation: The MedPAN contribution to the project will be a maximum of €35,000. The project involves at least 3 MPAs from different Mediterranean countries, among the eligible countries, to work on a common subject, transfer experience or develop a common tool.
The MedPAN Calls for Small Project is open to:
- Organisations that are in charge of the management of MPAs;
- Other organisations (NGOs, private companies, scientific institutions, etc.) working with authorities that are responsible for the management of Mediterranean MPAs.
Projects must include as many concrete actions as possible; preliminary studies must be limited and must lead to concrete actions within the project. Expert missions from one MPA to another, exchange of experience or training will also be taken into account if the immediate implementation of the acquired knowledge is planned.
